Less Than Jake at  The Town Ballroom

There is no more fun band than Less Than Jake. A little ska, little punk and all rock and roll. Every show, whether on a Wednesday in Peoria  for a few hundred or a festival in Europe is chuck full of great songs, rude comments and of course audience participation. So when the boys from Gainesville hit the Town Ballroom on Sunday we all knew what to expect. Led by the the always affable Chris sporting his metal jean jacket vest on vocals and guitar and the even more affable Roger on bass/ vocals and wisecracks. With backbeat supplied by Vinnie and horns from Buddy and J.R.

For all the shenanigans their songs always tell stories that go beyond the usual "lets get fucked up and dance" (which I'm sure is an activity they whole-heartedly endorse) and give you a little insight into who they are and what they think is important. Songs like "The Rest of My Life" or "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" tell great stories with a little message. For me it's the ability to see myself in the songs they sing that have always been at the root of their appeal. Even though they are huge rock stars (In Australia at least) riding in limos bathing in cocaine and groupies I fell like we have have something in common.

They opened with  "Sugar in Your Gas Tank" and "Dopeman" for their now classic Losing Streak. "Plastic Cup Politics" and "The Ghost of You And Me" from Anthem rounded out the first four tunes.

Hitting a few songs from nearly every CD including their big hit in Australia "Bomb Drop" from their latest EP Sound the Alarm

The evenings set rounded out with "All My Best Friends are Metalheads" and  "Gainesville Rock City" Now if they would only play another hour. You can check out all this Less Than Jake here: http://www.lessthanjake.com/news.html
